How it works · Bone health
Bone is being lost

In severe osteoporosis there isn’t enough bone-building activity to keep up with losses.

What it’s used for

Postmenopausal osteoporosis at very high fracture risk.

How it works

It blocks sclerostin, a natural brake on bone formation, so osteoblasts build bone faster.

How it’s taken

Two injections under the skin once a month for 12 months.

Side effects

Joint pain, headache and injection-site reactions. A boxed warning for heart attack and stroke.

Monitoring

Calcium, and a review of heart and stroke history before starting.

Good to know

Followed by an antiresorptive medicine to keep the gains.
