How it works · Blocking TNF
Immune cells release TNF

TNF is a chemical messenger. Overactive immune cells release it to call in more inflammation.

What it’s used for

Rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, uveitis and psoriasis.

How it works

It is an antibody that binds TNF, a key inflammatory messenger, so it cannot switch on inflammation.

How it’s taken

An injection under the skin every 2 weeks, using a pen or prefilled syringe.

Side effects

Injection-site reactions, colds and sinus infections, and a higher risk of serious infections including reactivated tuberculosis. Rarely, nerve inflammation or lupus-like rash.

Monitoring

TB and hepatitis B screening before starting, then regular check-ins and blood tests.

Good to know

Pause doses during a serious infection and before major surgery. Avoid live vaccines. Biosimilars work the same way as the original.
