Video lesson
Why it’s ordered
To distinguish lupus, Sjögren’s, scleroderma, myositis and mixed connective tissue disease.
Understanding results
Anti-dsDNA and anti-Smith point to lupus. SSA (Ro) and SSB (La) suggest Sjögren’s or lupus. Scl-70 and centromere antibodies relate to scleroderma. Jo-1 relates to myositis with lung involvement.
Good to know
Anti-dsDNA levels can rise before a lupus kidney flare.
