Immune cells release IL-17

IL-17 is a chemical messenger. Overactive immune cells release it to call in more inflammation.

What it’s used for

Psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa.

How it works

It binds IL-17A, a messenger that drives inflammation in skin, joints, tendons and spine.

How it’s taken

Injections under the skin weekly for 5 weeks, then monthly. An IV option is also available.

Side effects

Colds, yeast infections of the mouth or skin and, rarely, new or worse inflammatory bowel disease.

Monitoring

TB screening before starting, then clinical follow-up.

Good to know

Not ideal for people with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis.
